Speaking to Siliconera, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 producer Ryota Niitsuma stated that there was simply too much new data in Ultimate to warrant making it a downloadable add-on for Marvel vs. Capcom 3. According to Niitsuma, there hasn’t been enough time to sort out everything required for a downloadable release of the new content and characters, so they are going to stick with releasing the content as an on-disc retail exclusive.

It’s a bummer to hear that Capcom has no plans to bring the new content to fans who have already spent their hard-earned money on the original Marvel vs. Capcom 3, but it’s certainly not a surprising move by the company. They’ve done the exact same thing with nearly every version of Street Fighter ever released.

“Given the development schedule, there wasn’t enough time to work out all of the details to release it as downloadable content, as well. Also, for the reason you mentioned, there is so much data in the game it was easier to go this route.”

Those who were able to resist the impulse buy MvC3 will be rewarded with the game and a bunch of brand new content for a reasonable $40. Those who already own the game should remember this lesson when Capcom eventually releases Street Fighter X Tekken, because an even better version of the game is likely right around the corner.

Are you disappointed that Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 will be disc only? Would you have used a DLC option if given the choice?

Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is due this November for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
